Beer, biscuits and bricks is here to spread a few thoughts on music in the Reading area, mainly because this is where I see most live music these days. On those heady occasions when I do get into London or some other exotic location I’ll post other reviews and I may even cover some art and books, who knows, I sure as hell don’t. Along the way I’m hoping to pick up some side kicks to add some variety to my limited writing talents, so if you’re interested let me know at the email below.
The name, for those who would like to know, derives from the 3Bs that Reading is known for, although the general consensus is there are four. The original three are Beer, Biscuits and Bulbs with bricks seen as the 4th. Now, far be it for me to tinker with the areas history but it has always struck me that the bulbs bit was rather weak, it refers to Sutton Seeds who used to be based in Reading but moved on many years ago, as bulbs were only a small part of what they did it does feel a bit like they stretched the idea to fit somewhat, and when you take into account Reading red bricks we’re made in the area for such a long time and are found in such a large proportion of the towns buildings, I chose to promote bricks ahead of bulbs.
Music wise this blog will generally cover what I describe as guitar based music although I do diverge into some kinds for electronica (but not of the popular variety). Broadly speaking if you fall into one of these general categories then I’m probably going to give it a listen, Americana, Alt. Country, Folk, Roots, Blues, Indie and alternative. I prefer my music original and with a twist, with a sound that I will remember. So if you fit the bill send me some info to luthersboogie [at] gmail [dot] com.
I’ll post up songs here if you send me a Soundcloud link, videos with a YouTube link, if you want music files taken down let me know and I’ll get right on it.
